If the Northern Star was a tabloid…

I thought it might be a bit of fun to reimagine the Northern Star as a modern popular newspaper. So I’ve taken the issue of 7 May 1842, which reported the procession and presentation of the second Petition for the Charter to the House of Commons, and turned it into a red-top.

Everything on the new front page was included in the original paper: it was referred to as the ‘leviathan’ petition; it was claimed to be six miles long and weigh three hundredweight; they did have to remove the doors of the House of Commons to get it all into the Chamber. And the Feargus O’Connor article is taken verbatim from his letter to Chartists that appeared on the front page on 7 May 1842.

This is really for my own entertainment, but hope others may enjoy it too. If you want to read more about the 1842 petition and how it was handled, it is all here.
